Online Marketing with Social Media

I’ve been fortunate to have met several people who know a lot more than I do about online marketing and social media. I’ve met them at conferences and seminars in Orlando, Atlanta and Philadelphia organized by Mark Hendricks, Michael Penland and Ken McArthur.

It all began in 2006 when my wife and I attended a free event Mark Hendricks did in Orlando to introduce his ISS program (Internet-Success-System) to new people.

At first, I thought it was just part of the sales pitch he said you have to attend live events to get the most out of an internet teaching program. But when I met Jack Humprhey who was a featured speaker and, Dr. Ron Capps who is known as the NicheProf, I knew what he meant.

Frankly, I didn’t understand the concept of social marketing at the time, but I have a better grasp of it today because my wife and I decided to follow the internet rainbow. While I haven’t found the pot of gold, I have found the gold mine. I learned quickly that no one will give me the gold, but they will, and did, give me the shaft.

Like all journeys in life, you have to do it yourself, one step at a time. My steps have lead me to internet radio and a platform called BlogTalkRadio.

I am still working on the alphabet soup of internet marketing.

During the summer of 2006, my wife and I took our classic RV, a 1986 Mallard, and ‘flew’ north to the Pocono Mountains in Eastern Pennsylvania so we would avoid hurricane season in Miami. As I was setting up our internet office in my sister’s home, her son told me he was studying for his SEO certification. I was impressed. I barely understood the concept and I was focusing all of my efforts on internet marketing and here he was, studying for SEO certification. So, I asked him to help me understand SEO better. He looked at me and said sure. “In Pennsylvania,” he explained, “in order to have a license as a Perc Tester, I have to complete the Sewage Enforcement Officer (SEO) training. Do you want me to tell you about it?”

I declined and went back to my computer, Googled ‘SEO’ and began to read about Search Engine Optimization. He passed his test and is now a certified SEO in Pennsylvania.

From October 24 to 26, 2008 Nathan Anderson was part of Mark Hendricks’ ISS Conference Atlanta 2008. Nathan is considered an SEO expert. He spent time with the group each day, and had dinner with us on Saturday night. I learned a lot, including the distinction between Absolute and Relative links.

I produced a couple of videos and two BlogTalkRadio shows. If you are interested, Google – ISS Conference Atlanta 2008.

I have found Mark’s program to be a rainbow map. So, if you’d like to check it out, click here: http://budurl.com/issprogram.

By the way, I am pleased to be part of the NicheProf’s School of Social Marketing. I’m working on my ‘How-to’ element. The presentation I made in Atlanta is the basis. Now, all I have to do is figure out Camtasia.
